Sifnos Information

The island of Sifnos belongs to Western Cyclades, has 365 churches and 55 towers. Located between Serifos, Kimolos and Antiparos. The island has a triangle shape and its distance from Piraeus is 75 nautical miles. The coast reaches about 70 km.

The capital of Sifnos Apollonia is a picturesque village in the center of the island, which owes its name from the god Apollon. Apollonia is built among 3 hills. Among the narrow streets, whitewashed stairs, the white cube-shaped houses and dozens of churches, the famous flaroi will attract your attention, especially the pottery of the island that was placed in the chimneys of the houses. Next to Apollonia, now united with it, is the Artemón, a village full of neoclassical buildings, old mansions and windmills.

The port Camares, lies between two mountains, which have white churches in their tops. Holidays in Sifnos will be an unforgettable experience as Platis Gialos is one of the most beautiful and popular Sifnos beaches, which is equipped for water sports and near the village there is the Monastery of the Archangels.

One of the most beautiful pictures of the island is the church of Panagia Chrysopigi which is built on a huge rock that actually invades the ultimate blue sea. Do not forget to visit the Castle, a village inhabited continuously since prehistoric times and was the medieval capital of the island until 1836. In the area there are monuments from a patchwork of cultures, while overlooking the Aegean sea is wonderful.

Beaches in Sifnos

The island is famous for its deep blue waters and the beautiful coastline. Some of the most famous beaches in Sifnos are Platis Gialos, Vathi, Faros, Cheronissos and Camares. The island is connected by ferry with Piraeus daily. Also, is connected with the neighboring islands of Kythnos, Serifos, Kimolos and Milos.
